Salt Information

L-Arginine

Pregnancy: NA Lactation: NA Lab: NA Food: NA

Typical usage: L-Arginine is used for congestive heart failure, chest pain, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease. L-arginine is also used for recurrent pain in the legs due to blocked arteries, decreased mental capacity in the elderly, erectile dysfunction, male infertility. L-arginine for preventing the common cold, improving kidney function after a kidney transplant, high blood pressure during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia), improving athletic performance, boosting the immune system, and preventing inflammation of the digestive tract in premature infants.

Side Effects: Abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gout, blood abnormalities, allergies, airway inflammation, worsening of asthma, and low blood pressure.

Drug Interaction: L-Arginine is known to interact with other drugs like captopril, enalapril, losartan, valsartan, diltiazem, amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, sildenafil, nitroglycerin. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.

Mechanism Of Action: L-arginine's activities, including its possible anti-atherogenic actions, may be accounted for by its role as the precursor to nitric oxide or NO. NO is produced by all tissues of the body and plays very important roles in the cardiovascular system, immune system and nervous system. NO is formed from L-arginine via the enzyme nitric oxide synthase or synthetase (NOS), and the effects of NO are mainly mediated by 3,'5' -cyclic guanylate or cyclic GMP. NO activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which catalyzes the synthesis of cyclic GMP from guanosine triphosphate or GTP. Cyclic GMP is converted to guanylic acid via the enzyme cyclic GMP phosphodiesterase. NOS is a heme-containing enzyme with some sequences similar to cytochrome P-450 reductase. Several isoforms of NOS exist, two of which are constitutive and one of which is inducible by immunological stimuli. The constitutive NOS found in the vascular endothelium is designated eNOS and that present in the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system is designated nNOS.

Lycopene

Pregnancy: NA Lactation: NA Lab: NA Food: NA

Typical usage: Lycopene prevents heart disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), cancer of the prostate, breast, lung, bladder, ovaries, colon, and pancreas. Lycopene is also used for treating human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, which is a major cause of uterine cancer.

Side Effects: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, gas, nausea, and vomiting.

Drug Interaction: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Mechanism Of Action: Lycopene acts an antioxidant by fighting free radicals in the body. Due to its antioxidant property, it reduces the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Methylcobalamin

Pregnancy: C Lactation: L3 Lab: NA Food: NA

Typical usage: peripheral neuropathy, megaloblastic anaemia

Side Effects: Anorexia, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Drug Interaction: Decreased GI tract absorption with neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, H2-blockers and colchicine. Reduced serum concentrations with oral contraceptives.

Mechanism Of Action: Mecobalamin is the neurologically active form of vitamin B12 and occurs as a water-soluble vitamin in the body. It is a cofactor in the enzyme methionine synthase, which functions to transfer methyl groups for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. In anaemia, it increases erythrocyte production by promoting nucleic acid synthesis in the bone marrow and by promoting maturation and division of erythrocytes.
