TYPICAL USAGE

To treat high blood pressure, prevention of heart attack or stroke, heart failure and renal disease.

SIDE EFFECTS

Headache or feeling tired, fainting, abnormally low blood pressure (hypotension), fall in blood pressure during standing posture, dry cough, breathlessness, increased blood potassium levels, inflammation of sinuses (sinusitis), skin rash, chest pain, cramps or pain in the muscles, numbness, tingling, pricking, burning or creeping on your skin, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, feeling depressed or anxious, heartburn, constipation and dry mouth.

DRUG INTERACTION

Medicines used to relieve pain and inflammation such as ibuprofen or indomethacin and aspirin reduce the effect of ramipril. Medicines which can increase the amount of potassium in the blood such as spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride, potassium salts and heparin, steroids (prednisolone), gout medications (allopurinol) can increase the amount of ramipril leading to side effects. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

It belongs to a group of medicines called ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) inhibitors, which block the enzyme ACE, ultimately reducing the substance called Angiotensin II and thereby widening blood vessels which help reduce high blood pressure.

TYPICAL USAGE

Hydrochlorothiazide is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and swelling of the body due to heart, liver or renal diseases and corticosteroid or estrogen therapy.

SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness , headache, tiredness, weakness, sleepiness or sleeplessness, diarrhea, indigestion, mild stomach pain, urge to vomit, vomiting, painful muscles, muscle weakness, back pain, high levels of uric acid in the blood causing swollen and painful joints, nose or throat infections, nasal stuffiness and/or runny nose.

DRUG INTERACTION

Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with other drugs including aspirin, ibuprofen, tubocurarine, lithium containing drugs, digitalis glycosides, nitrates or vasodilators, cholestyramine,colestipol, alcohol, narcotics, and corticosteroids. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to the group of medicines called diuretics which increase the urine output. It decreases blood pressure together with other drugs (angiotensin convertase enzyme inhibitors) that reduce the levels of a substance called angiotensin II.

Can I take Cardace H during pregnancy?

Experiences of drug use and evidence from studies in pregnant women have shown risk to fetus. This drug may be used in pregnant women if benefit outweighs the risk. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use.

Can I take Cardace H while breastfeeding/lactation?

Possibly unsafe: Evidence from studies in breastfeeding women show that there is a definite risk of side effects to the breastfed infants. However, use of the drug in breastfeeding women is acceptable in spite of the risk to the infants, if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use.
