MECHANISM OF ACTION
Dithranol restores the normal rate of epidermal cell proliferation and keratinization by reducing the mitotic activity of the hyperplastic epidermis of psoriasis. In vitro studies show that dithranol prolongs the prophase of mitosis for keratinocytes and leukocytes; in vivo studies show that dithranol inhibits DNA synthesis and may increase the release of reactive oxygen species, upsetting oxidative metabolic processes.
